Generic Name: Chlorpromazine klor-PROE-ma-zeen
Drug Class: Phenothiazines | | Contents | Description | This medicine is used to treat psychotic disorders such as hallucinations, delusions and hostility. Phenothiazine drugs may also be prescribed to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting.

| | Proper use of this medicine | Take this medicine exactly as directed. Swallow extended-release capsules whole, do not open. Do not take more of this medicine than is prescribed by your doctor. If your doctor has given you a suppository, follow these steps: If the suppository feels soft, hold it under cold, running water for 1 minute. Dip the tip of the suppository in water. Lie down on your left side and raise your right knee to your chest. (A left-handed person should lie on the right side and raise the left knee.) Using your finger, insert the suppository into the rectum, about 1/2 to 1 inch in infants and children and 1 inch in adults. Hold it in place for a few moments. Stand up after about 15 minutes. Wash your hands thoroughly and resume your normal activities.

| | Missed Dose | Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.

| | Storage | Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

| | Possible Side Effects | - Contact your health care provider if the following side effects become bothersome or don't go away; dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, rash, constipation, vision changes, difficulty urinating
- If you experience involuntary movements, sore throat, pounding heart beat, or unusual bruising or bleeding, notify your doctor at once.

| | Warnings/Precautions | - This medicine may cause drowsiness.
- Be cautious when driving or performing other hazardous activities. This medicine can impair judgment.

floor felt like it was tilted, everything was like looking through a distorted fog.

I recieved this while hospitalized. as soon as I was released I stopped taking it. Others that I know have had good luck with this but I did not. I left the recommend to others on yes because everyone experiences their own side effects and so on. One person flop medication can also be another persons miracle drug. so I always say all you can do is try it and if it doesn't work for you then let the prescribing professional know

after taking this med for a short time, I ended up with symptoms similar to parkinson's

The brand name for this med is Thorazine. I was using mail order perscriptions at the time & this was sent some months for my perscription for thorozine. A had taken this med for a few months, starting at a low dose. As the dose was increased, I noticed I wasn't able to walk without help nor could I control my hands in order to control my eating utinsils to get food from my place to my mouth. I was taking this along with compozine to control the nausea from my migraines. Initially I didn't know what was happening, so went to ungent care. They initially suggested it was the compozine, so I stopped that & the symptoms continued. I finally went to a neurologist who determined that the thorozine/chlorpromazine was continuing to cause the symptoms. I immediately stopped taking the med & it still took over a month for the symptoms to go away. It was determined that this med did cause parkinson's type symptoms as my reaction to it.

adverse reaction to direct sunlight, causes you to hallucinate, blocks your sinusus and causes trouble breathing threw nasal cavitiies, antiquated and addictive, taken every 4 hrs but effects wear off after 1 hour, shakes in the morning commanly know as t

this is an outdated 1950's medication,it is addictive and causes more problems than it solves, it is harder to wean yourself off than benzodiazapines, it has bucket loads of side effects, most are listed on the meds info sheet that comes with the pills or liquid, but a few that i listed in the cons list are not.
i have been on this medication since i was 19, i am 32 now, i have had numerous medication changes in that time period but never have i been taken off chlorpromazine, i am currently on 300mg 4 times daily and have been told by the doctors that it would be dangerous for me to come off them after such a long exposure to it.
